Ghanaian dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) as part of an ongoing investigation into his tax obligations connected to his luxury Lamborghini vehicle.
According to a statement from his management, Shatta Wale voluntarily appeared at the EOCO offices on August 20, 2025, accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to cooperate with investigators regarding the inquiry. The case centers on questions about the acquisition and taxation of the yellow Lamborghini, which had earlier been seized by EOCO following reports that the FBI had flagged it as linked to criminal proceeds in the United States.
His management, including media personality Sammy Flex, assured fans that Shatta Wale’s legal team is fully engaged and actively working toward resolving the matter and securing his release. Shatta Wale and his lawyers are set to return to EOCO on August 21, 2025, to continue discussions with authorities.
The singer has publicly declared that he purchased the car legally and insists he was unaware of any criminal links associated with its previous owners.
