Greater Accra regional organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Anthony Nukpenu, has hinted that the NDC plans to recruit over 200,000 macho men into the newly formed NDC vigilante group, the Hawks.
Mr. Nukpenu speaking on Asempa FM’s political talkshow Ekosii Sen said the NDC is bent on recruiting 200,000 men into The Hawks and nothing will prevent the party from going ahead with the plans, arguing that there is no law stopping the party from setting up an internal security service.
“We are bent on recruiting 200,000 macho men to join The Hawks, and we will use every legitimate means to make it happen. We will use them to protect the ballot in the 2020 elections because we know we will win the elections,” he said.
Nukpenu also disagreed with the host’s description of the Hawks as a vigilante group, insisting that the group is an internal security set up to protect the party at all times.
“How do you know they have not been registered as a private security company, it is possible they have been registered to operate as a private security so you can’t just call them a vigilante group,” he insisted.
The NDC since launching the Hawks Vigilante group earlier this week has faced a barrage of criticism. However the party doesn’t seem to be perturbed as it is determine to defend the decision to set up the group.
