Rachel Keen, The Ghanaian Singer Who Wrote “Bigger” The First Song On Beyonce’s The Lion King Album

Rachel Keen (born 24 October 1997), known professionally as Raye, is a British singer and songwriter from London. She is best known for featuring on Jonas Blue’s 2016 single “By Your Side” and Jax Jones’ 2016 single “You Don’t Know Me”, which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart.

She was short-listed for the BBC Music Sound of… award for 2017 and was named in third place.

Keen was born on 24 October 1997 in Tooting, London, to a Ghanaian-Swiss mother and an English father.

She moved to Croydon, where she studied at Woodcote High School before being accepted to attend the BRIT School for two years before dropping out after she felt “confined…despite learning an extensive amount.”

On 11 December 2014, Raye released her debut extended play Welcome to the Winter. On 7 February 2015, she released her debut single “Flowers”. On 28 April 2015, she released the single “Alien”.

BEYONCÉ’S eagerly awaited Lion King album is released on Friday… and the first track, Bigger, has been penned by 21-year-old Londoner Raye.

Last night the Stay (Don’t Go Away) singer couldn’t conceal her excitement as she broke the news on Twitter, posting a string of weeping emojis and the words: ‘I can’t, I can’t.’

On Sunday Raye was among only eight guests when Bey and her hubby JAY-Z hosted an intimate dinner following The Lion King’s London premiere.

She had been on the safari-themed yellow carpet earlier that evening to support Beyoncé, who voices Nala in the Disney remake.

Friends say Raye has been kicking it with the powerhouse couple after she spent a few months recording in La La Land. One told GP: ‘Raye was invited personally by Beyoncé. They have struck up a friendship from when Raye was in LA.’
